Of the four superhero CD-ROM comics released by Inverse Ink, Aquaman: War of the Water Worlds is unquestionably the best. That is not saying much for this title, however, as this is still a bad piece of software.

As in the other wastes of disc space, all you do here is click from frame to frame as action lifted straight from the 1960s Aquaman cartoon unfolds. Just about every frame has some sort of animation to it as you listen to the voice actors from the cartoon. The simple animations are completely unimpressive while the QuickTime ones will make you wonder why you just don't turn on the Cartoon Network and watch the same thing.

After seeing one of these episodes on television it becomes apparent that what you watching is three with a few clever -- and I use the term loosely -- methods to bring them all together. This ultra-lazy approach (why couldn't they just create a new story to begin with?) forces several plot elements to lack much sense. For instance, Mera appears out of nowhere about halfway through as though she had been with Aquaman and Aqualad the whole time.

To its credit, Aquaman: WotWW features more work put into it than the other superhero "CD-ROMic" books from Inverse Ink involving Superman, Superboy and Batman. Some of the "plot clues" (not that you have control over it) were actually more than just a simple graphic. They might have been three simple graphics. Quite an improvement.

This software is only for two types of people: (1) die-hard fans of Aquaman before he started kicking butt in the 1990s (do they exist?) and (2) people who love horrible games. Steer clear of this one.

Graphics: The panels are drawn quite nicely at times, but the cartoon clips are grainy.

Sound: Simple, repetitive music moves plays the whole time, and the volume changes between normal scenes and cartoon clips.

Enjoyment: A confusing story and not enough interaction.

Replay Value: The story takes about twenty to thirty minutes to click through. Once you realize that that's twenty to thirty minutes of your life that you'll never get back, you won't play it again.

Aquaman: War of the Water Worlds is an interactive comic based on the animated TV series Aquaman (1968). In fact, most of the content is directly taken from the episode War of the Water Worlds in which Mera, Aquaman's wife, is kidnapped by a war lord who has the power to bewitch people. This game retells the story how Aquaman rescues her.

Gameplay is non-existent: the player is presented with comic panels. Depending on where the player clicks on, the dialogue is voice acted or a short video from the episode is played. There is an auto-play feature and a page selection.
