Similar to Speedball 2 in many ways, this is an ultra-violent sports game. Matches last 7 minutes, and the aim is to get the ball into a goal at each end, guarded by a net-minder. The ball can be thrown or kicked, and is an oval, resulting in frequent up-and-under type kicks.
The gameplay is fast and flowing, and has one rule - if you can't get the ball, get the man, and decapitate him if possible. Bonus and non-bonus items appear on the pitch, such as bombs to throw at opponents, rabbits to speed up the current player, or tortoises to slow him down.
Teams consist of humans and aliens, many of which have their own unique skills. There's a lot of blood and flailing limbs, giving things a gruesomely humorous edge. There are four leagues to progress through, plus a knockout cup and single matches.
Think about Aussie rules football, add weapons, remove the referees and you've got this game! There's blood flowing, swords swishing and bombs being thrown. Not exactly a family game...
On the pitch there are two teams, each simply trying to get the ball into the other's goal. To stop the opposition from doing that there's tackles, swords, shields, bombs, rabbits (!) etc. The controls are very simple: one button to change player (or slayer) and one to have him do something, like throw the ball or tackle.
It's easy to get started, just configure your joystick and choose "League", "Unfriendly" or "Knockout". If you don't have a joystick, you can use the keyboard as well (you'll even see the default keys at the start). Pick a team and a level of difficulty, and you'll be instantly thrown into action on the pitch. This is good, as it doesn't take more than a few seconds to get started, but you might also say that this is the game's downside, because it doesn't get any more advanced than this.
Music and graphics are on par with most sports games in 1993, without ever really impressing. As you can see from the short review, there aren't that many aspects of the game to write about. It's fun for a while, but won't last you a whole evening.
Another football clone. And a fun one. It's a combination between the original football (soccer to you US folks) game and American football.
Each team have a goal and you score a goal each time you get the ball into the goal (surprise). All though this game is a sports game it still contain a lot of violence and you have to act fast if you want to avoid getting slain by your opponents.
Of course you can play in two player mode and play in tournaments as well. The graphics are also quite detailed with fitting sound. A recommended download.
A good blend of fantasy football and soccer game that isn't very original, Brutal Sports Football still offers plenty of knuckle-blistering action. Lead a team through increasingly difficult matches to win the championship. The game's sole focus on furious action and the lack of in-depth play tactics makes it appealing to both action gamers and football fans looking for a quick distraction from complex sports titles.
