GBA Championship Basketball can be played as One or Two Player vs. the Computer or Two Player with Computer Teammates and includes Practice Play. Draft your Teammates from a list of ten players whose styles are patterned after real professional superstars. Practice with games like "Around the world" and "Horse", or go one-on-one with a friend. You play GBA Basketball on a full court. And when it comes to shooting, you have a full range of choices, like hook shots, tip-ins, jumpshots and even dunks. After each game, you can read the sports page of the Gamestar Gazette to check box scores and division standings.
One of the first games by master sports game designer Ed Ringler, GBA Championship Basketball is a fun arcade-style basketball game that is notable for being one of the first sports games of any kind that offers full tournament mode. Player statistics are minimal, probably due to hardware limitations of the era, but animations of the players are smooth and the control method is excellent (both joystick and keyboard are supported). Although it is still primitive, the game is definitelly more playable than, say, Epyx' more popular Street Sports Basketball. Definitely a good start for Gamestar/ Ed Ringler, and well worth a look, if for nothing other than pure, 100% nostalgia :)
