Treasure MathStorm! is an educational game designed for kids ages 6 to 8. The Master of Mischief has invented a machine that changes the weather and froze Treasure Mountain! Your goal is to restore the mountain by locating different treasures on the mountain and returning them to the castle at the top. When all the treasures have been restored, the king will have his power back and all of the ice will melt. In order to find treasures and make your way up the mountain, you will need to help the elves solve a variety of math problems. When problems are successfully solved, the elves will then give you clues about treasures, some money which can be used to purchase items in the shops, or some items to help you reach the next level of the mountain. The math problems can include addition, subtraction, multiplication, telling time, counting money, and more. When you have located the treasures and brought them to the castle, you may then advance to a more difficult skill level.
This game became somewhat of an obsession for me to find. I literally found every other game in the Super Solver series (and a few that weren't) looking for this one. So it's going to be difficult to review it objectively.
After being defeated at treasure mountain the Master of Mischief decided a change was in order. A change in the weather, that is to say. He covered the mountain in snow with a weather machine and froze the throne he couldn't get in the last game. The result was that all the machines on the mountain went haywire.
Your job is to gather treasures, help repair the machines, and melt the mountain. The elves are back to help, but this time their focus is on math. Capture an elf with a scroll in his hand, answer the problem he gives you, and in addition to a few coins you'll learn how many snowballs to pile together to find a present. You'll want to get as many presents as you can on every level. Also, at each level of the mountain there is a challenge that you must solve to get to the next level. Alternately you could buy the parts to get to the next level at the store, but be careful because you can run out of coins can't buy any more nets. If you run out of nets too you're out of luck.
In the store you have to buy things with exact change, meaning you'll have to put quarters, dimes, nickels and pennies on the table to the total of what you're buying. Mostly you'll want to buy nets, but there have been a few times that I was tired of doing the clock game.
At the top of the mountain you need to complete the sequence of the monster at the door to get by, then put the treasures you found in the chest and it's back down the mountain to repeat. You get to keep one treasure each time up the mountain. But beware, treasure collecting can be addictive and watching your storeroom fill up can be unexpectedly rewarding.
There were certain surprising elements, despite the fact that this game came after Treasure Mountain and duplicates a lot of the game-play elements. For one, MathStorm doesn't scroll. MathStorm does allow you to move a little faster by sliding. Also, you can play with your toys all at once instead of one at a time.
Treasure MathStorm is a math adventure aimed at ages 5-9. It was remade for windows CD-Rom in 1992 with enhanced graphics and sound, if you can find it.
