A follow up to the game Who Killed Sam Rupert?, The Magic Death is an improved version to the earlier game. Not only are there more suspects, but more solutions as well. In fact, there are three possible solutions to the mystery.
Otherwise, the game plays pretty much the same. Players can view the crime scene, interview the suspects, and check their alibis. They can also view the other evidence, which includes a voodoo expert, a voodoo primer, the autopsy report and attatched toxicology report, view blueprints of the apartment and other, related pieces of evidence.
After this, players have to go to the press conference. They must get at least 7 of the 10 questions right to go on to the warrant stage. Here, they can interview three more of the suspects in further detail and then swear out a warrant against one of the suspects.
The court will then decide if the warrant is supportable and you will hear the outcome of your case. If you have chosen wrongly, as long as you have at least 20 minutes of time remaining, you may try again.
As with Who Killed Sam Rupert? you only have six hours to solve the case, but the time to hear the witnesses and view the evidence has been shortened, in some cases, to only three minutes.
This is a very good game, at the same time more complicated than Who Killed Sam Rupert and with more playability due to the numerous correct suspects. If you get a chance to purchase this game, you should, as it will afford you many hours of interesting gameplay.
Graphics: The movies are still grainy, but very nice for a game made so long ago.
Sound: A little low. You'll want to turn it up.
Enjoyment: Very enjoyable, even more so if you like solving mysteries.
Replay Value: With three possible game endings and shifting clues, you will really enjoy playing this game until you have solved all three solutions.
An anthropologist is found dead in her apartment as a sacrifice in a voodoo ritual.
The Magic Death is the second entry in the Virtual Murder series of FMV murder mystery games. As in the previous title, the player has to solve the crime within a time limit of 5 hours. Time decreases when an action is performed (examining an object at the crime scene, watching a suspect's interview), the exception being a brief case summation that can be accessed and played without any penalty.
After gathering enough evidence (stored automatically in the notebook area), the player can call a press conference and answer questions about the case. If this questionnaire is filled correctly, the game moves to its second level, where the player must present the case to the judge.
