The Adventures of Willy Beamish is a point-and-click graphic adventure game where players guide the Bart Simpson-like title character through four days of activities and puzzles, including taking a photo for a tourist, washing the family car, sneaking out of class while the teacher is asleep, writing out a hall pass, and using a can of hairspray to ward off a bat (who used to be Willy's babysitter). The animations are nice, there's plenty of irreverent humor, and Willy can store tons of useful items in his backpack. However, some of the puzzles can be frustrating, and the game loses much of its appeal the second or third time through.
Willy Beamish is a kid who likes to goof off and have fun. Naturally all the grown-ups get in the way by making him go to school, making him clean his room, etc. But now that's school's out for the summer, Willy is determined to have a good time and maybe even have his pet frog win the frog jumping contest. However Willy has a habit of getting into trouble, and naturally that means it will be a challenge to get out of it.
The Adventures of Willy Beamish is a point-and-click graphical adventure. You play Willy Beamish, an eight year-old kid who is just trying to get through life without losing his lunch money. But he'll have to deal with parents, teachers, babysitters and bratty sisters. The player must solve different puzzles to ensure Willy can progress, get out of trouble and generally avoid ending up grounded.
The in-game time progresses even if no action is taken. This means many puzzles have to be solved in a certain time frame or rely on being in the right place at the right time. A special aspect of this game is a bar which shows Willy's relationship to his parents. It gets affected by the way certain situations are resolved, e.g. it increases if Willy refuses to play with his sister, and when it is full they send Willy to a military school and the game is lost.
I'm a really big fan of this game; I think most people who enjoy sierra games would also enjoy it. This game stars Willy Beamish a young boy who wants nothing more then to spend his summer playing Nintari (Sounds like a similar early 90's system we all loved to play) and winning the Nintari gaming championship. Of course things do not go according to Willy's plans as he becomes swept up into a zany adventure that pits him against the two most powerful figures in town, Leona, the head of the very powerful Toot Sweet Company, and Louis the Leader of the Plumbers Union when they unite to try and bring the entire city under their power. Throw in two loyal friends, a crazy pet frog called horny, a family of ninjas, a talking parrot, a ghost, and a vampire babysitter for good measure and you get a wacky and fun filled Sierra adventure!
This game is your basic mouse point and click type interface similar to many other Sierra On-Line games of the time. The graphics are fun and very cartoony. The storyline is probably where this game is the weakest, not only is it very short, I think I beat the game in one sitting, but there are a lot of aspects of the game I felt were unexplored like whose that crazy nurse? And who are all the kids in detention? The puzzles themselves are usually logical, but can be very tricky to solve. Sometimes you don't have the wit to complete the task in the allotted time. My advice, SAVE OFTEN!!!
In closing this game is a lot of fun for a one shot quick adventure and any true fan of sierra and/or adventure games. It's a game that anyone can play ranging from very young to even the oldest loyal Sierra fan. So sit back, grab some Slam Dunk Cola, a Slice of anchovy pizza, and enjoy!
The summer holidays have begun, but Willy Beamish has a big problem, his schoolresults for last year. The report is on the mail and Willy knows that if his father sees it, his opportunities for the Nintari championship are over. So Willy needs to get home before his father. That's where the game starts, you have to try and get Willy out of class, or even better, out of the school building. If you don't succeed, Willy's father sees the report. But sooner or later dad will find out about the report card and he gives the key of Willy's Nintari to his sister, so she'll keep it safe.
There are 2 problems now, the first: Get the key of Willy's Nintari back so he can practice for the championships. And the second problem: Get Willy enough money to be able to enter the championships, that means about $3,000.- if I'm right.
This is a very original game. It's very hard and for me, the game stops at a certain point, where the babysitter changes into a bat and I really don't know how to get further. Well, this game is really worth a try, the idea is very original and there are many different ways of playing and succeeding in this game. Check it out!
Adventures of Willy Beamish is the last adventure game designed by Dynamix' founder Jeff Tunnell, the prolific designer of such puzzle classics as The Incredible Machine. You are precocious youngster and resident console-game addict Willy Beamish, who, in his insatiable quest to procrastinate, starts out his summer vacation on a high note with a bunch of friends, gets into bigger and bigger trouble with bullie, and eventually gets to save his hometown from malignant adults who are poisoning the town's only river. The optional puzzles and multiple puzzle solutions that made Jeff's earlier classics Heart of China and Rise of The Dragon highly replayable are sadly missing from this game, as here Willy is plunged headlong into one trouble after another without any control over his fate, and the adventure is over all too soon. Still, funny animations, clever puzzles (some involving Willy's pet frog as an inventory item), and humorous antics help elevate the game above mediocrity. Beware of some timed sequences that might be impossible to pass without slowing down your computer.
