Imagine someone handing you a cool couple of million dollars in cash and then giving you the freedom to do whatever you want with it (well almost -- there was no option to "woo super models"). That, in a nutshell, is Capitalism Plus. It's a kind of monetary SimCity where players assume the role of chief executive officer of a burgeoning new corporation. The objective is simple -- specifically, to make money.
Capitalism Plus is an interesting game. At its easiest level it is quite an elementary process of judging supply and demand. At its most advanced, however, a number of options become available allowing players to decide everything from what employees to hire to where and when to build that new factory. A number of actual and player editable maps exist, allowing players the freedom to see what it would be like to run, say, London for a day or develop their own unique economic world.
As a serious economic simulation it is simply, hands down, the most detailed and thorough package on the market. As a recreational game, as it is packaged, the game is something of a failure. Capitalism Plus is work. Players will soon find themselves lost in menu upon menu of topics such as strategic tools, stock options, personal management -- the list goes on and on.
Though the graphics and sound are pleasant and helpful enough, the entire game plays a bit too much like a sophomore economics course. Documentation is excellent and leaps ahead of what is normally included with some games. But unfortunately, unless you are a business major yourself, you may find the reading quite dry and tiresome. Capitalism Plus may be one of those rare games whose absolute realism has actually hindered it, making it remind you more of your day at work then your way to relax.
Graphics: Not bad, but not really important in this type of game
Enjoyment: Need to be interested in economics to enjoy it.
