Knights and Merchants is a strategic economy simulation with real-time strategy military elements. In the "Shattered Kingdom" campaign, players control the last remnants of a king's forces, and must defend the city from oncoming attacks. In the "Peasants Rebellion" campaign, players will defend existing settlements against angry mobs of medieval blue-collar workers. With a total of 34 missions, gameplay involves directing a medieval economy, training an army, and leading the army into battle. Each citizen acts somewhat independently, though players decide when and where to build the 25 different buildings. Ten units include medieval knights, bowmen, pikemen, and, of course, the all-important gold miners. Six players may go head to head using a LAN or the Internet.
